Strength from vulnerability
Is showing that you are vulnerable a good or bad thing?
I genuinely believe that sharing openly can be a really positive thing. It builds inner strength and just as importantly gives others around us the courage to do likewise.
I often think that when we are at our most vulnerable and open that we have the opportunity to take away the greatest learning from life.
Growing from vulnerability
Why am I thinking about this you may wonder? I was recently surprised and delighted to have been recognised by Computer weekly as a top 50 most influential woman in technology.
At the event, which was full of incredibly talented women and men, we heard from inspiring speakers, shared thinking and ideas on how we can build a diverse tech talent industry, I felt so inspired by those around me.
It also took me back to moments on my own career journey where it would have been easier to have given up rather than to regroup, build my resilience and keep on going. I am so very glad I kept on going.
Building a diverse sector
We work in an industry that is full of opportunities to work with companies that are changing the way we work and live for the better. We need more people to enter the Tech industry and build their careers and it means that those of us on the path ahead of them need to share the challenges we have faced but also the rewards.
We need to encourage and support so that nobody jumps off this path because it feels like they are on your own or that it seems too hard to keep going.
The Digital Leadership Report
Next week we launch our Digital Leadership report for the 24th year. Yesterday I was on Sky News talking about it and managed to talk about Tech being a great industry to build a career for everyone.
In the coming weeks we will find ourselves in many conversations off the back of this fantastic report and I encourage us all to take up the challenge to build a tech industry fueled by a diverse pool of talent. Let’s encourage people to see that the more diverse the talent the more successful the business and to welcome new people into this fantastic industry.
