Guest CEO blog: The Power of YET! By Jony Mandal, VP, Culture and Development, NashTech
In the arena of personal and professional growth and development, there exists a simple, yet powerful approach known as "The Power of YET" that is based on the notion that even if something has not been achieved or claimed, it does not mean that it is impossible to achieve or claim. It is all about channelling and cultivating a growth mindset, resilience, and possibility. It is driven by the state of mindset that we all carry to define success in our lives.
When confronted with challenges, failures, or inability to achieve goals, many of us tend to feel disheartened and start to question our potential along with our abilities. This is where the power of YET helps to navigate us to the right path to success! It is all about wearing a different lens to look at ourselves, evaluate the situations, and channel our growth mindset to cross over the orbit, we define as impossible!
How does the magic work?
It is simply by adding a three-letter word YET to our feelings, thoughts, and statements.
Instead of just saying or thinking ‘I don’t know this’, simply say ‘I don’t know this YET’ and thereafter, complete the statement by adding a solution statement. For example, you receive a new task that requires you to use your knowledge and experience on AWS (Amazon Web services). However, you never had any knowledge or experience of AWS previously. To this situation, instead of thinking ‘I do not know about AWS’, how about using a magical statement – ‘I do not know about AWS YET, I can learn it within 5-6 days and gain the necessary skills’.
The rule of thumb is to be mindful of instances or situations that condition us to say 'Can't' or 'Don't' or 'Never', etc. Using these words stand-alone deflects us from the growth mindset. If we believe that we cannot do something, chances are that we fail at it even if we try it.
This concept encourages a growth mindset that allows us to view failures or challenges as a chance for growth. With the ‘Power of YET’, we can approach new endeavours with confidence and faith. It brings us to a strong belief that even if we have not perfected something yet, we do possess the ability to learn and evolve through the journey.
So, next time you are faced with something that does not seem possible, think about how it does not seem possible YET. You may well find that just around the corner the impossible will happen.
