Every day is an education…
One of my favourite sayings is ‘everyday is an education’ which is a bit cheesy but very true. I firmly believe that there are experiences throughout the day that give us opportunities to develop. I really value those opportunities and I believe in proactively seeking out development opportunities that I know will help me to grow in my role and in my personal life.
Let’s not forget that not all training happens in the classroom… As an avid reader, albeit mostly thrillers and biographies, I regularly purchase books that are recommended to me and I also believe in sharing that knowledge which is why I recently brought the books I have read and left them in our UK HQ and LDN:W to give other people the opportunity to read them. So next time you are there why not take the opportunity to read one, return it and enable the next person to benefit. Which leads me on the paying it forward… I have been lucky enough to spend time with some amazing mentors during the course my career. It is a brilliant way to learn from the experiences of others and gain from their networks too. It is a fantastic gift to share your experiences through mentoring and something I am trying to do more, especially as this was important to me in my career development. We launch our Global Mentoring Programme in April with our call for mentors so do keep an eye out for that, it would be great to have more colleagues than ever involved both as mentors and mentees.
There are, of course, more formal ways to keep learning which is why I am delighted that at Harvey Nash Group we made the decision to invest in our learning tech to upgrade our offer to you. It is a brilliant resource that will grow over time… we have coaching training, diversity and inclusion training, presentation skills training and more. You can get to know our business better by watching one of our ‘Coffee with…’ videos or hear from David Savage about the benefits from having his role as Group Technology evangelist. Life-long learning is something we can all benefit from, so why not take the opportunity to continue your learning experience by logging in to Nash Academy.
