Getting ready
The last few months haven’t been easy for many of us. Difficult market conditions have made many of our jobs harder, and as we adapt to the market, changes in how work and teams we work in can make things feel unfamiliar.
More widely, the world also has also given us challenges, with the recent terrible news about conflict in Gaza, for instance. Our hearts go out to all of the families who have lost loved ones and for those who have people they love in the region.
When life is going well it feels like the sun is shining (no matter what the weather) and that most days are fun and fulfilling. When this suddenly changes, as it sometimes does, and through no fault of our own, it can feel so different.
At times like these it is easy to think that things won’t change, to put our heads down and lose faith in ourselves. I speak from experience here.
Where opportunities are born
In my many years of working in technology and talent I have learnt that it is often during the most challenging times that the best opportunities are born.
But it might require a different mindset to when times were less challenging.
The most important thing we can do is to believe in ourselves. To know that if we are doing the right things, not giving up but really keeping our heads up and our energy high, then we will get the results we deserve, even in these more difficult times.
Over the years of working in our incredible industry I can say with certainty that market conditions will change again, they always do. That one day suddenly clients will take more of our calls and place more orders again. This has always been the case and I watch out for signs that this change is coming every day.
For my part I want you to know that I believe we have incredible people across the world who are working hard and I am proud to work with so many talented people. Thank you for what you do.
There is nothing more certain that change
There will always be change around us, it is a constant in life no matter the situation you find yourself in. If we do not change we go backwards, we achieve less, we do not grow and it becomes harder to invest and do all the things we want to do.
Adaptability and flexibility are crucial ingredients to how we operate as a business and within our teams. It is why our strategy is working and even in these tougher times we continue to invest and build.
Responding to change
I have shared the changes I made with the Executive Committee in order to accelerate our growth in important areas such as growing a strategically important market such as Germany, to dedicating a CCO role to focus on growing business in our most strategic clients.
It is why this week I announced we have opened up Harvey Nash in Canada which is a large trading market for our services. Our approach to adapting to change is what will help us to accelerate out of these tougher times.
We will continue to focus on delivering our strategy and making changes to secure our future. All of this can only be successful with each of us playing our part. I love the work we do, I am proud to work with colleagues across the world and I know that conditions with change again suddenly and we will be ready to respond.
