Cyber Awareness Month

Last year over $1trn was lost to cyber-crime – that’s 1% of global GDP. Wow.

Today we live in a world where well over half our 8bn population has access to the internet and over 10bn devices are connected via the Internet of Things.

It has been a staggeringly positive development for humankind. Never before has so much information and so much connection been available to so many people.

But being in this increasingly connected world can also mean we are also closer to the bad guys, the cyber criminals.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Cybersecurity Awareness Month (CAM) was established on October 1st 2004 by the US government to raise awareness of issues around information security, and eighteen years later it is still going strong, perhaps more needed than ever.

So as we begin CAM, it’s important for us all to think carefully about our own role in protecting ourselves and company we belong to. Did you know that 75% of hacks begin by someone being fooled by an email they received?

It’s also an opportunity for us to think about our clients, and how our own services might help them. For instance think about our very own vCISO practice, where we help clients shape their security strategy and build their own cyber security teams.

Capture the Flag - a unique ‘world first’ event

Over the next month we will sharing more information about cyber security, including social postings, podcasts and an invite to a unique ‘world first’ event in November called Capture the Flag, aimed at getting more women into cyber security.

We live in a wonderful interconnected world. Let’s use the next month to raise awareness in ourselves and our clients on how to keep it safe.
