Contractor of the Year Award
When Ronny Lommelen proposed last year that we have a global competition to find the ‘contractor of the year’ my response was immediate: “YES let’s do this!”.
We work with around 9000 highly skilled contractors every month and our clients trust us to bring them the very best in the industry. This is something we have been doing very well for over 30 years.
An incredible journey
Since Ronny’s suggestion, we have been on an incredible journey hearing the stories about our valued contractors across the world. Last week we had the finals for each country, and we are now conducting panel interviews to find our overall winner of global contractor of the year.
This is the first time we have run such an award and I know for sure that this will be an annual competition from now on.
Stories from across the world
I don’t know what I was expecting from this process exactly but what I experienced made me lean forward in my seat and hang on every response we got to the questions we asked. One of the contractors had moved his family from the Ukraine to Belgium to keep them safe and took up his first contract post with our Harvey Nash team in Belgium. His story was humbling.
Another spoke about her passion for the work she does as a project leader and how she values the assignments we have placed her on. Another told her story of how her work took on a whole new meaning during the Covid pandemic and the client wrote about just how valuable her work has been and what a caring person she is.
I never had any doubt just how much value our contractors bring to our clients businesses but hearing outstanding examples brought to life by the people who do this day in day out is something that will stick with me forever.
The winner
Yesterday we broke the news to one of the entrants to the competition that they had been awarded the global contractor of the year award. The reaction and the conversation that followed will remain with me always. It was a humbling moment to experience just the difference the work that colleagues do all around the world to businesses and people’s lives.
I won’t spoil the surprise as to who was awarded this yesterday as we will be announcing it widely next week. So, for now I want to say thank you to everyone for making this happen, with special thanks to Ronny for his idea in the first place, for Rachel Watts who made it all happen and everyone around the world who work with clients and contractors every day.
Have a restful weekend and keep safe and well
