As co-chair of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) APPG, I’d like to bring both Houses’ attention to the development of where we are with AI and how the UK plans to be a trailblazer in fostering the global AI industry.
In addition to having far-reaching effects on every sector of the economy, artificial intelligence is already reshaping our culture and the world around us.
As can be seen on with the latest wave of AI art which has taken the internet by storm. This, in addition to IBM's recent advancements in quantum computation, will turbocharge the Fourth Industrial Revolution to new heights.
A strategy document outlining the UK government's vision for the future of AI legislation in the country was recently released with a public request for input.
What's promising is that the paper's title alone (“Establishing a pro-innovation strategy to regulating AI”) and its stated goal of making the UK the greatest environment in the world to start and develop an AI firm both emphasise the significance of not interfering too much with innovation in this field.
The widespread adoption of AI technologies has the potential to significantly improve economic outcomes on a variety of scales, from the individual to the national and global levels.
AI has the potential to bring about significant social advantages as well as economic ones.
I’m steadfast in my belief that the UK will be a world leader in all future technologies going forward; now, it’s time for us to realise our potential.
